A Call, But Not THE Call

We made a very important decision this week. So, we were the ones that made a phone call. We called our agency to let them know that we wanted to change our child request. After much prayer, we have decided that we will only adopt one child this time around.

We want to be the best parents we can be. Since we've never been in that role, it makes sense to focus on one child at a time. While we totally believe that if the Lord wanted us to adopt two children at one time, He would totally equip us for the job. And we did feel called to that and were obedient.

It will be a blessing to be able to bond and focus on this one little guy. We want to give our all to our son. For us, it would have been a disservice to the children to try to balance two very different stages of development for the first time. Do people do it all the time? Yes and I'm sure they do it well. For us this is right. I'm not too proud to admit that.

If there are regrets (which I don't think there will be) we would rather "regret" adopting only one instead of "regretting" adopting two and not doing a great job with them.

Maybe next time we'll bring home two. Yes, I'm already thinking about next time. I'm ready to work on the paperwork. This adoption thing rocks!

We have peace that surpasses all understanding. We are requesting a boy, birth to 18 months old.

Hey Jill, I love the fact that you are following God's will for your life. He will bless your obedience! We requested two when we adopted from Russia… God had other plans. I thank God often for changing our hearts. We have never regretted adopting only one. xxoo, candy

Wow,
this is a big change and I am sure it was hard to make that call but it is more important to obey God. I sure hope you will get the call from our agency soon about your little boy.

You are such an amazing, thoughtful and loving couple - with very good heads on your shoulders and huge love for God in your hearts. I am very proud of you two for making that call. We know how much tossing and turning sometimes goes into the listening for God's will. I pray you now have big peace. Much love to you two and to your babe who is there waiting for you. Huge hugs, sabrina

Wow! What big news. It is so amazing how the Lord works in our hearts through this adoption process!

I think it would have been a challenge to meet the needs of two little ones at different ages as first time parents. I know I couldn't have done that! (Though there are other who can and have...I'm just not one of them!) For me, there was such a huge learning curve and I really felt like God prepared me for each phase as it came. Starting out with a baby was definitely the right place for me when I became a mommy!

Regardless of whether you start with an infant or any older baby, the Lord will ready your hearts for parenthood! He knows what is right for your family and you guys are going to be great!!! This was such a bold step to take and I know the Lord will honor your faithfulness!

I'm praying you'll receive word of your son very soon!

Love,
Erica

That must have been a hard decision, but it sounds like the right one, and sounds like you have peace about it. I now think you are sooooooo close to a referral. You guys must be on of the first in line for a single boy!!! Bring on the referrals.
