potty training...what's the big deal?

He's gonna kill me for this one someday.

We decided not to potty train the traditional sense. I figure who needs the stress and fights and drama? I did get this awesome frog potty so it would be a familiar idea. Silas adores the potty. It's a novelty and it shows up in every room.

Last night Aunt Katy was over and Silas brought the potty into the living room and told me, "poo poo". I asked him if he needed to poo poo and he pointed at the potty. I took off his diaper and told him to go for it. He sat down, but nothing happened. Now let me throw in that I don't expect this to happen quickly, but I do think if I don't pressure him it will happen less stressfully. He won't be 10 years old still wearing diapers, know what I mean.

Fast forward to tonight. I was running Silas' bathwater. I stripped him down and took off his diaper. I told him to go pee pee. He sat on the frog pot and I gave him his allergy medicine while he sat. I looked down and lo and behold there was PEE PEE IN THE POTTY!!!!!!!!!! It may have been a fluke, but did you hear me say there was pee pee in the potty?! A lot of pee pee.

I've got a genius on my hands, people.

We'll just hope his interest level stays up. It would be nice to just have one in diapers come February....

Speaking of belly baby...I'm feeling all kinds of movement, especially when I sit still in the evenings. I can still wear my regular clothes, but I'll admit, these maternity jeans are the bees knees. As I stated on Facebook (which explains my lack of posting here), if everyone wore maternity pants there would be world peace. I can see how it would be hard to give these things up after the baby is born.

I still can't believe I'm pregnant. It's crazy exciting! Oh how I wish Marshall was here with us. And I know he would rather be here too. The fact that we get to talk to him often is a huge blessing. Bless him. He was here for the sicky sicky first trimester and he was so good to me. I'll be 19 weeks tomorrow...that's like half way through.

Lots of people have asked if Marshall will be here for the birth. He will not. Our plan is for him to come a couple of weeks after the babe is born. That way he can enjoy the entire two weeks with us at home and maybe get some rest himself.

I'm in search of a Bradley Method instructor so we can start classes. Aunt Katy is going to be my partner...she's a good sister.

Last, but certainly not least, we went to Branson, Missouri last weekend for our AWAA Africa Reunion. I'll do a post about that, but the pee pee in the potty was a pressing matter.

so fun to hear about the next steps that Silas is taking and how baby #2 is growing and moving! I do think of you often...especially during this time of separation form Marshall and I am praying for all of you.

I'm so impressed about the pee pee...my non-asked for advice?Whatever you do, just don't get cocky. I did after #2 potty trained at 21 months...and Owen is now 4 and still has almost daily accidents. Ah, life.

On another note, my good college friend just found out her husband's 6 mos. deployment just got extended to 8 mos. She, too, has a very new little baby girl. I feel so sad for you guys, but I also know that you just make it work. I admire your courage and joy despite less-than-ideal circumstances. Wish I could have seen you two in Branson.

love,
Danielle

WOW!!! I can't believe it--so jealous! Maybe I should load Josiah up and send him down to you for a while? You could potty train him and he could teach Silas all sorts of bad habits (like poking people, wait, he already showed him that one...).

Miss you guys, praying for you!

Way to go Silas! Deacon was a breeze to train to go #1. It was #2 that was the issue. Good luck. And, you're right...if you don't stress about it, he won't stress about it.
